This yellow moss is commonly found growing in small clumps In bogs.
It is short, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps, and is slightly frail.
When mature, emerald kidney-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release hundred of spores; it does not cause many allergic reactions.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
Their seeds have hallucinogenic properties.
The leaves are excellent for making pulp fibers.
