Copper Fruit Tree

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 51 feet (15.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 69 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a knobbly, angular trunk covered in delicate, smooth, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the hard wood is yellow.

The abundance of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with large amounts of large, long, narrow leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are grey with caramel tips.

In early spring, it produces bunches of large, bright purple blossoms with 6 oval-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a faint scent that smells like damp.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, circular fruit. The smooth lilac skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is bitter, and the very soft grey flesh is savoury and dry. The green seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
