Aquamarine

This huge fruit tree grows up to 74 feet (22.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 60 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a wide, wonky trunk covered in delicate, cracked, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the very dense wood is black.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with thick bunches of huge, thick leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are hazel with white tips.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of tiny, white blossoms with broad, flat petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like rotten eggs.

In early winter it produces small, oval fruit. The rubbery aquamarine skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is slightly savoury, and the very soft light grey flesh is bitter and sour and juicy. The brown seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
