Copperfruit

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 24 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, wavy trunk covered in very thick, smooth, brown and grey bark, and inside, the dense wood is black.

The tangled mess of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with handfuls of tiny, needle-like leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are solid red with copper streaks.

In early spring, it produces many tiny, lime blossoms with 5 heart-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a soft scent that smells like sugar.

In mid-summer it produces , fan-like fruit. The fuzzy vibrant purple skin is delicate and spicy, and the soft sky blue flesh is sweet and sour and very dry. The green seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It can grow in even the most barren lands.
It is bio-luminescent.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It can flourish even in standing water.
