Copperfern

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This average-sized caudiciform grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall. The finger-like stem is red, and is covered in sharp spines. It has a slanted, thick, beige trunk atop a slender stilted platform of ridged, exposed roots. The branches are wide and copper and are short and thin.

The toothed-edged, long, narrow leaves are either orange, or lime with lilac zig-zags. They are durable, and take little effort to detach.

It is slow growing, taking 14 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are green in the center, violet in the middle and magenta at the edges, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a star made up of 19 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. It has an overpowering scent that smells like cheese.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the red flesh is slimy, and the blood red sap is thin.

It is suitable for making strong rope
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
It coexists peacefully with other plants.
