Bloodvine

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall. The stiff, pointed stem is moss green, and is covered in thick sheets of flexible blood red spines. The stumpy, washed-out orange trunk can grow to as much as 5 feet (1.5 meters) in diameter. Its lime green branches are very short and slender.

The tattered-edged, perforated leaves are either gold, or crimson with violet edges. They are robust, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is quick growing, taking 10 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with solid green petals and a cyan central disk grows at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is largely flat with handfuls of widely spaced round-tipped petals. It has a soft scent that smells like baby powder.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the olive flesh is slimy, and the olive sap is thin.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
Both the grass and the grains are spicy and slightly toxic.
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if cut.
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
