Crimson Moss

This hazel or intense red moss is commonly found blanketing small areas On rotten logs, In bogs, and In marshes.
It is large, growing up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches and they are slow to spread and grow, and is overwhelmingly flexible.
When mature, emerald flame-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release dozens of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.
