Bloodfruit Tree

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 46 feet (14.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 77 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a sturdy, slanted trunk covered in hard, wrinkled, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the flexible wood is copper-coloured.

The thin clumps of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with sparse amounts of giant, thin leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are grey with blood red tips.

In early spring, it produces several giant, azure blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They detach easily and have the faintest scent that smells like cinnamon.

In early summer it produces small, circular fruit. The sticky amber skin is tough and sweet, and the crunchy gentle orange flesh is savoury and very dry. The black seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
