Bluefruit Tree

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 51 feet (15.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 19 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, wavy trunk covered in thick, cracked, dark brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is dark brown.

The branches are short and thin and are covered with large amounts of giant, thick leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are either brilliant purple, or vibrant blue with lilac patches.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of tiny, lime blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like lemon.

In early autumn it produces , perforated fruit. The fuzzy crimson skin is tough and inedible, and the very soft vibrant blue flesh is sweet and oily. The bold red seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
