This burgundy moss is commonly found blanketing giant areas In bogs.
It is short, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in thick clumps and they spread and grow quickly, and is extremely delicate; it burns easily in strong sunlight.
When mature, emerald spiral capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late summer to release hundred of spores.

It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
