Caramel

This modest-sized leaf succulent grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall. The thin stem is bold yellow, and is covered in many rigid caramel spines. The jagged-edged, circular leaves are a shade of emerald that gradient shifts to bold orange at the top. Small amounts of them grow from the base like a cabbage. The leaves are hardy, but take little effort to detach.

It is slow growing, taking 38 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with alternating petals of faded green and cream, with an amber central disk grows at the top, reappearing after 4 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of several petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight bowl. It has a strong scent that smells like coconut.

The leaf succulent's skin is rock-hard, the bold yellow flesh is sticky, and the beige sap is thin and causes upset stomachs if consumed.
