Azureberry

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This massive shrub grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for around 50 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous wide, straight stems covered in thin, wrinkled, yellow-brown bark, and the wood inside is gray.

The branches trail down towards the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of giant, fan-like, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in yellow and aquamarine varieties, rigid and clammy.

In late summer it produces dozens of giant, intense orange blossoms with 3 cylindrical shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like garlic.

In early winter tiny arrow-shaped fruits ripen. The smooth azure skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy white flesh is salty and dry. The orange seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
