Blackberry

This average-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 139 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has numerous stocky, straight stems covered in thin, knobbly, black bark, and the wood inside is black.

The branches trail down across the ground that and are covered with large amounts of tiny, wispy, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either intense orange, or white with olive streaks, delicate and sticky.

It produces dozens of tiny, slate flowers with fan-like petals. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like chocolate. In mid-summer it forms smallpeach aril (seeds with fleshy covers).
