It is giant, growing up to 11 inches (28 cm) tall. It forms in small clumps and they are exceptionally hardy, and is slightly durable.
When mature, emerald teardrop-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-autumn to release hundred of spores; it does not cause many allergic reactions.
The entire plant is edible and the grains areslightly bitter.
