Bronzeberry

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 36 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, crooked trunk covered in waxy, brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is pine-coloured.

The small handful of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of small, very narrow and elongated leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are either blue or gold, with turquoise lines.

In early spring, it produces dozens of small, pink blossoms with 8 circular shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a fairly strong scent that smells like bleach.

In early winter it produces large, slender, 9 pointed fruit. The rubbery bronze skin is thin and edible when roasted; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy cream flesh is overwhelmingly sour and very juicy. The white seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
