Bluefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This big fruit tree grows up to 28 feet (8.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 23 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in delicate, cracked, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the hard wood is white with black speckles.

The sparse patches of branches are very short and thin and are covered with handfuls of huge, needle-like leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are beige and caramel.

In early spring, it produces a handful of medium-sized, blue blossoms with 8 oval-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like damp.

In early summer it produces , heart-shaped fruit. The fuzzy lilac skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is sour and savoury, and the slightly crunchy bronze flesh is bitter and dry. The silver seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
