Bronzeberry

This large fruit tree grows up to 33 feet (10.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 65 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in thin, silky, light gray bark, and inside, the very hard wood is gray.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with thick bunches of huge, long, narrow leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are found in red and bronze varieties.

In early spring, it produces many clusters of medium-sized, beige blossoms with sickle shaped petals. They detach easily and have a faint scent that smells like onion.

In early autumn it produces , wide fruit. The smooth brown skin is stretchy and sweet and bitter, and the very soft black flesh is bitter and sour and oily. The hazel seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
