Crimson Spine Succulent

This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall. The tapering stem is green, and is covered in copious amounts of flexible grey spines. It has a straight, very thick, crimson trunk atop a narrow platform of smooth, exposed roots. The branches are flat and pink-red and are tall, rigid and upright.

The smooth-edged, long, narrow leaves are a shade of pink-red that gradient shifts to cream at the top. They are light, but easily come away when pulled.

It is very slow growing, taking 44 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with turquoise petals and a gold central disk, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 20 curved petals. It has no scent.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the turquoise flesh is waxy, and the blood red sap is thin.
