Brownfruit Tree

This big fruit tree grows up to 22 feet (6.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in delicate, ridged, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is brown.

The numerous branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, long, narrow leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid brown or sky blue, with crimson patches.

In early spring, it produces lots of large, lime blossoms with wide petals. They are hardy and have a strong scent that smells like meat.

In late summer it produces tiny, finger-like fruit. The clammy white skin is delicate and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the crunchy white flesh is sweet and very juicy. The ashy red seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
