Copperwood

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This large shrub grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 136 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has dozens of knobbly, straight stems covered in thick, rough, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is silver.

The branches are short and thick that and are covered with large amounts of small, very thin, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are purple and crimson, durable and clammy.

In mid-summer it produces bunches of giant, aquamarine flowers with broad, flat petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like cheap aftershave.

It is suitable for making strong rope
A particular bird species likes to nest in it.
