Burgundy Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 22 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wonky trunk covered in thick, knobbly, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is burgundy.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with very large amounts of miniature, perforated leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are found in bronze, vivid red and muted yellow varieties.

In early spring, it produces many tiny, orange blossoms with broad, flat petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a strong scent that smells like cheap aftershave.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, finger-like fruit. The fuzzy beige skin is thin and inedible, and the slightly crunchy black flesh is sweet and very juicy. The white seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It coexists peacefully with other plants.
