This brown moss is commonly found blanketing tiny areas In moorlands, In heathlands, and In damp forests.
It is giant, growing up to 10 inches (25 cm) tall. It forms in small clumps are slow to spread and grow, and is very tough.
When mature, emerald kidney-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release hundred of spores.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
It is very rare outside of a particular area.
It grows well in the sun and full shade.
