Clinging Pineapple Tree

This large fruit tree grows up to 32 feet (9.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 26 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in thin, silky, light gray bark, and inside, the very light wood is pine-coloured.

The branches are very long and slender and are covered with small amounts of giant, 5 pointed leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are solid amber or sky blue, with indigo zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces balls of tiny, dark brown blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like pineapple.

In mid-summer it produces small, stiff, pointed fruit. The fuzzy green skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft green flesh is bitter and salty and oily. The deep yellow seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
