Emerald Clump Moss

This gray moss is commonly found blanketing giant areas On rotten logs.
It is short, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in small clumps, and is extremely resilient.
When mature, emerald kidney-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release dozens of spores; it does not cause any allergic reactions.
