Gray Moss

This gray moss is commonly found growing in small clumps On rotten logs, and On trees.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in thick clumps and they are slow to spread and grow, and is very frail; it struggles more than most during dry spells.
When mature, emerald crescent-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release millions of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.
