Bloodstone Succulent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This large caudiciform grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall. The tapering stem is yellow-green, and is covered in handfuls of fine, silver, hair-like spines. The straight, grey trunk can grow to as much as 6 feet (1.8 meters) in diameter at the top. Its pink-red branches are short, rigid and upright and start growing halfway up the stem.

The small amounts of rounded-edged, finger-like leaves are found in amber and dark grey varieties. They are sturdy, but detach easily.

It is fast growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with petals that are generally blood red; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour grows at the top, reappearing once every 5 years. The flower head is shaped like a heart made up of several raised, narrow petals. It has a strong scent that smells like an ocean breeze.

The caudiciform's skin is extremely thick, the blood red flesh is soft, and the orange sap is thin.
