Spiney Trunkulus

This short caudiciform grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall. The tapering stem is muted green and black, and is covered in large amounts of rigid cream spines. It has a curved, stocky, caramel trunk atop a round block of wrinkled, exposed roots. The branches are bulbous and orange and trail down to the ground.

The toothed-edged, stiff, pointed leaves are solid lime or black, with grey patches. They are flimsy, and do not detach easily.

It is slow growing, taking 2 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are sky blue in the center, crimson in the middle and green at the edges, grow at the top, reappearing once every 8 years. The flower head is made up of several petals in raised layers. It has a faint scent that smells like chocolate.

The caudiciform's skin is tough, the grey flesh is rough, and the brown sap is thin and has hallucinogenic properties.
