Burgundy Heath Moss

This burgundy moss is commonly found growing in small clumps On rotten logs, and In heathlands.
It is massive, growing up to 10 inches (25 cm) tall. It forms in large clumps, and is extremely resilient.
When mature, emerald crescent-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-summer to release thousands of spores.

The pollen is overwhelmingly toxic to people but not to certain animals.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It is slightly resistant to fire damage.
