This beige moss is commonly found growing in medium-sized clumps In moorlands.
It is modest-sized, growing up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. It forms in small clumps, and is overwhelmingly hardy.
When mature, emerald shield-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late autumn to release thousands of spores.

It is very rare outside of a particular area.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
Their seeds have hallucinogenic properties.
