Azureberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 48 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, angular trunk covered in hard, smooth, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the very light wood is mahogany-coloured.

The sparse amount of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of giant, sickle shaped leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are azure and blue.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of giant, aquamarine blossoms with 6 oval-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like cherry.

In mid-autumn it produces , fan-like fruit. The clammy red skin is thick and edible when roasted; it is savoury, and the crunchy lime flesh is bitter and very juicy. The ashy yellow seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
