This moss green and grey moss is commonly found growing in tiny clumps In bogs, On trees, and In heathlands.
It is small, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in large clumps, and is overwhelmingly robust; it can easily endure being trodden on.
When mature, emerald kidney-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late summer to release hundred of spores.

It can survive a very long time without water.
It commonly grows in large patches.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
