Brown Shieldfern

This brown moss is commonly found growing in tiny clumps In marshes.
It is short, growing up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they spread and grow quickly, and is extremely rigid; it burns easily in strong sunlight.
When mature, emerald shield-shaped capsules grow at the end of long, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late autumn to release hundred of spores.
