Copper Spine Succulent

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized leaf succulent grows up to 37 feet (11.3 meters) tall. The asymmetrical stem is orange-yellow and slate, and is covered in copious amounts of flexible orange spines. The smooth-edged, spear shaped leaves are copper and green. Very large amounts of them grow from the base in tight-packed layers. The leaves are resistant, and take little effort to detach.

It is slow growing, taking 38 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with petals that are either light brown or lilac, with a yellow center grows at the top, reappearing once every 10 years. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 35 curved petals. It has an overpowering scent that smells like varnish.

The leaf succulent's skin is delicate, the grey flesh is rough, and the indigo sap is thin and can cause blindness if consumed.

It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if cut.
