Crimson Glow
Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 50 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has several slender, wonky stems covered in hard, wrinkled, silver bark, and the wood inside is pale brown-grey.
The branches are very long and thick that and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, long, narrow, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are either pastel green, or crimson with gold edges, frail and clammy.
In late summer it produces a thick sheet of small, cyan blossoms with flame-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like lemon.
In early winter large slender, 9 pointed fruits ripen. The waxy violet skin is delicate and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the soft crimson flesh is spicy and dry. The cream seeds are tiny and are bunched at the top of the fruit.
It is bio-luminescent.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
