Burgundy Cottonwood

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This massive shrub grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and lives for around 47 years. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several long and flexible, straight stems covered in hard, silky, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches are long and thin with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of miniature, sickle shaped, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are red on the sides and olive at the center, light and leathery.

It produces thick bunches of large, red flowers with perforated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like cotton. In mid-autumn it forms medium-sizedwhite aril (seeds with fleshy covers).
