Bloodvine

Shrub type: Deciduous (Sheds its leaves in winter)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 195 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several knobbly, straight stems covered in thin, ridged, light brown bark, and the wood inside is light brown.

The branches are long and thin that and are covered with sparse amounts of huge, finger-like, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either black or cream, with blood red edges, pliable and clammy.

In early spring it produces lots of giant, red flowers with perforated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like pepper.

The bark is frequently covered in moss.
It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
It is suitable for making strong rope
The bark, wood and leaves are edible.
