Copperfruit

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, slanted trunk covered in wrinkled, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the hard wood is dark brown.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with thick bunches of large, wide leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are solid magenta or beige, with black splotches.

In early spring, it produces dozens of large, aquamarine blossoms with needle-like petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like sugar.

In early autumn it produces , long, tapering fruit. The sticky pink skin is thick and spicy and savoury, and the slightly crunchy yellow flesh is sweet and dry. The caramel seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
