Burgundy Spike Cactus

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized cactus grows up to 51 feet (15.5 meters) tall. It splits near the top to form 3 thin stems. Each stem is burgundy, and is covered in brittle crimson spines.

It is very fast growing, taking 9 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with vivid purple petals and a lime central disk grow at the top, reappearing after 4 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 30 petals. It has a faint scent that smells like apple.

The cactus's skin is nearly impenetrable, the deep orange flesh is slimy, and the beige sap is thin and can cause blindness if consumed.

It is suitable for making paper
