Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This big fruit tree grows up to 21 feet (6.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 32 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in very thick, ridged, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is yellow-brown.

The sparse amount of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small bunches of miniature, long, narrow leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are slate on the edges and beige at the center.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of medium-sized, grey blossoms with spiral shaped petals. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like skunk spray.

In late autumn it produces , stiff, pointed fruit. The smooth deep red skin is delicate and inedible, and the very soft blood red flesh is sweet and oily. The subtle red seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if cut.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
