Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 29 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in thin, wrinkled, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is copper-coloured.

The small handful of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with copious amounts of large, spear shaped leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are solid washed-out red or vivid orange, with turquoise lines.

In early spring, it produces dozens of giant, vivid orange blossoms with shield-shaped petals. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like cherry.

In mid-summer it produces , slender, 3 pointed fruit. The rough white skin is thin and inedible, and the slightly crunchy indigo flesh is sweet and very juicy. The silver seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
