Copperfruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 36 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in knobbly, gray bark, and inside, the hard wood is pale brown-grey.

The small handful of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of miniature, thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid copper with sky blue splotches.

In early spring, it produces lots of small, slate blossoms with broad, flat petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like bonfire smoke.

In mid-summer it produces very large, stiff, pointed fruit. The crispy dark brown skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft bronze flesh is savoury and syrupy. The light brown seeds are tiny and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
