Bloodfruit Tree

This colossal fruit tree grows up to 51 feet (15.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 62 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, slanted trunk covered in silky, brown-green bark, and inside, the very hard wood is light brown.

The sparse amount of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, thin leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are olive with lilac tips.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of small, blood red blossoms with 2 pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like old shoes.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, wide fruit. The rubbery pale orange skin is stretchy and inedible, and the very soft slate flesh is salty and dry. The slate seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
