Crimson Bowlflower

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its stem)

This large flower grows up to 2.2 feet (66 cm) tall. Its red stem is thin and straight with a curved tip, and the huge, lime and crimson leaves are broad, flat with ripped edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Each stem splits 2 to 5 times; a single large flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 50 cm (19.7 inches) wide, with petals that are blood red at the sides and copper at the center. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of many tightly layered, narrow petals. They are sturdy.

It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like old books, and it has a modest amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects , but is also visited by a small species of bird.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
