Brown Shield Moss

This brown moss is commonly found blanketing tiny areas On rotten logs.
It is short, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches, and is overwhelmingly frail; it burns easily in strong sunlight.
When mature, emerald shield-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release millions of spores.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It commonly grows in large patches.
It grows well in the sun and full shade.
