Sunset Red
Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its stem)This big flower grows up to 3.3 feet (99 cm) tall. Its orange-yellow stem is thin and straight, and the tiny, gray-green leaves are very thick with smooth edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.
Two tiny flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 45 cm (17.7 inches) wide, with petals that are silver at the sides and red at the center. The flower head is largely flat with handfuls of widely spaced round-tipped petals. They are very delicate.
It has an overpowering scent that smells like rainy days, and it has lots of pollen,but it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also particularly attractive to butterflies.
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
It is often home to a particular bird species.
