Blue Flame Succulent

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This average-sized caudiciform grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall. The perforated stem is gray-green, and is dotted with small white spines. The straight, lime trunk can grow to as much as 3 feet (91.4 cm) in diameter in the middle. Its moss green branches are very short and thin and start growing at the base the stem.

The large amounts of jagged-edged, slender, pointed leaves are sky blue at the bottom and green with pastel orange splotches at the top. They are resistant, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is fast growing, taking 9 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are sky blue on the edges and black at the center grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a dish made up of 12 raised, round-tipped petals. It has a weak scent that smells like fermented fruit.

The caudiciform's skin is rock-hard, the dark grey flesh is rough, and the blood red sap is thin.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
