Violet

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 74 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wavy trunk covered in fine, waxy, black bark, and inside, the dense wood is dark brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small bunches of giant, wispy leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are purple at the bottom and peach with violet streaks at the top.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of small, green blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have an intense scent that smells like vomit.

In mid-summer it produces , perforated fruit. The waxy hazel skin is thin and edible when boiled; it is spicy, and the crunchy green flesh is sour and powdery. The beige seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
