Violetberry

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 181 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous flexible, straight stems covered in wrinkled, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.

The branches are long and slender with thousands of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of small, asymmetrical, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are silver with purple tips, flexible and smooth.

In mid-summer it produces many tiny, violet blossoms with cylindrical shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like apple.

In midwinter circular fruits ripen. The soft dull yellow skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the very soft olive flesh is sour and savoury and dry. The crimson seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
The stems are covered in large spikes.
It can grow in even the most barren lands.
