Indigoberry

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 47 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in very thick, silky, black bark, and inside, the soft wood is light brown.

The branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with handfuls of miniature, needle-like leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of pink-red that gradient shifts to indigo at the top.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of large, blue blossoms with 2 flame-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like fresh linen.

In early autumn it produces small, asymmetrical fruit. The waxy dark brown skin is thick and salty, and the very soft dark brown flesh is spicy and sour and powdery. The cream seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
