Copper Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 73 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, twisting trunk covered in knobbly, dark green bark, and inside, the flexible wood is gray.

The large clumps of branches are very long and thin and are covered with sparse amounts of large, broad, flat leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are either copper, or dark brown with aquamarine streaks.

In early spring, it produces lots of medium-sized, pale red blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like a damp log.

In early summer it produces very large, long, tapering fruit. The sticky slate skin is thin and bitter and spicy, and the slightly crunchy dark brown flesh is sweet and oily. The gold seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
